The Fittest Man In Scotland: Fergus Crawley.

The ultimate all-rounder who can deadlift 733lbs whilst training for a double Iron-distance triathlon.

I’ve studied his incredible achievements and here are 7 lessons you can apply today to forge a stronger mind & body:

Who is Fergus Crawley?

• 26-year-old Scotsman

• podcast host (The Modern Mind)

• ran sub-5-min mile + squatted 500lbs (same day)

• 1,200lbs powerlifting total + sub 12hr Iron Man (same day)

• 600kg powerlifting total+ 60km ultramarathon (same day)

Here are the lessons:

1) Tell your story

Fergus attempted suicide in 2016 after falling into the trap of portraying an outwardly tough persona when he was struggling internally.

Sharing your darkest moments and how you overcame them can help others. Also, seek help. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.

2) Don’t compromise on your values

Fergus’ YouTube channel is world-class, but his subscriber numbers are comparatively low. That’s because he doesn’t chase virality at any cost.

Understand what your values are and stick to them. The easy road is often the wrong one.

3) Regularly seek discomfort

Fergus recently doubled the famous “Goggins Challenge” when he ran 4 miles every 4 hours for 96 hours.

Don’t rest on your laurels. Past accomplishments should be fuel for future growth, not an excuse to retreat into your comfort zone.

4) Diversify your learning

Fergus is the host of The Modern Mind podcast. His guests come from wide-ranging backgrounds with diverse stories to tell.

Don’t get stuck in the echo chamber of your social media feed, actively go out and challenge your perceived truths.

5) Fail forwards

Fergus and his coach, Jonny Pain, attempted a 'vertical' marathon by climbing Ben Nevis multiple times. They did not achieve their goal.

But by setting scarily high goals you explore your limits, learn from the experience and grow stronger for the future.

6) Seek silence

Fergus builds in 4+hr endurance sessions every weekend but without headphones.

Making time to be just with your thoughts and listening to what’s going on internally is crucial if you’re seeking to forge your best self. Only a calm mind is a strong mind.

7) Shatter limiting beliefs

Fergus is an incredible athlete, showing us that you can become stronger and build endurance at the same time, which was believed to be impossible.

Identify what you want out of life and pursue it with relentless passion. Prove the naysayers wrong.
