“Coaching with Tobi was one of the most impactful choices of my personal life and my career”
Why did you start with coaching?
Coaching with Tobi was one of the most impactful choices of my personal life and my career. Before I started, my life was a constant to-and-fro dance of doing things too much or too little. Either I was caught up on work, getting quality time with my wife, getting quality time with my kids, or growing personally, but never more than one or two of those things at a time. I felt stuck in a pattern of swinging back and forth between doing one thing too much and everything else too little.
I don’t think I had ever DM’d a random stranger on Twitter before, but Tobi sent a tweet about looking for busy dads who wanted to find balance in their life and it really resonated with me. As someone who never had a coach before, I was nervous about the process.
Our first meeting calmed my nerves and got me very excited. His approach wasn’t some pre-baked course to sell or 5 steps to fix XYZ, he wanted to know what my goals were, what problems I was facing, and what motivated me to change. Every piece of advice was catered to my situation and perspective. Tobi has wisdom on many topics, and a way with words that is persuasive without being abrasive.
What did you find?
Over the course of our relationship, our sessions were consistently the highlight of my week. It was time spent working on balancing life, rather than time spent working on one individual task. Not only that, but my wife noticed a major difference in my development and our relationship too, and quickly became a fan of Tobi just from seeing the results.
She once told me: “I feel like you’ve been in a really good place lately, more than normal. Your patience with the kids, attitude, motivation, I’m not sure what exactly it is. But whatever Tobi is doing, it’s working.” 😂
Nowadays it’s hard to imagine life before coaching. There are so many new habits with my kids, wife, work, and career that it’s difficult to keep track of. Some of these are daily or weekly, some yearly.
A key part of this journey was finding joy in fitness. This isn’t something I’ve ever felt good at or motivated to do before, but during my time with Tobi I got into the best shape I’ve ever been in. My eating habits, strength, and cardio were all transformed. I’m lifting more weight and running further than I ever have in my life.
Not only that, but I’ve found long-term practices that I enjoy. Fitness that I feel is easily maintainable over the course of my life, rather than a short-term experiment.
Who would you recommend it to?
If you value balance in life, feel like your actions don’t always align with your priorities, or feel stuck under insurmountable responsibilities, I can’t recommend Tobi highly enough.
If you’re early in your career or marriage and want to create balance before it becomes an issue, again, I cannot recommend him highly enough.
If you lack motivation, struggle with eating right, exercising, or sleeping enough, I’d recommend talking with Tobi.
To those who may say, “you’re just listing every topic there is,” I’d say: Balance is never about just one thing.
When was the last time you deeply regretted investing in your wellbeing?
