Getting Things Done - An Introduction

“Your mind is for having ideas, not holding them.”

David Allen Author of Getting Things Done

GTD has sold 1,600,000 copies so far.

Here a simple breakdown in 5 steps:

1. CAPTURE

= Collect what’s on your mind =

You need an inbox to capture everything.

No matter if big or small items,

Personal or Business,

Projects,

To-Dos.

Have one place where you just collect it all. Get it all of your mind.

2. CLARIFY

= Process what it means =

Now sit down and ask yourself: “What is the next action?”.

The next action might be:

• Archive it

• Just do it now

• Add it to a project file

• Schedule it for another day

3. ORGANIZE

= Give it a place in your system =

Your brain will only let items go if it trusts your system.

Email → Send it now

Action → Set a reminder

Archive → Have a file ready for it

Errand → Put it on a list for when you are out

4. REFLECT

= Weekly Review =

This is the key to the whole system. Once a week you need to sit down and review it all.

  • Clear your inbox

  • Review your to-do list

  • Go through your projects

Reflect on your system, does it need changing?

5. ENGAGE

= Get Things Done =

Now execute.

Take out that to-do list and crush it.

BONUS

= 2min Rule =

If a to-do item takes less than 2min to get done, do it right away.

This will prevent your to-do lists from growing too big.

Implement the Getting Things Done info-capture and review system and watch your productivity take off.
